When I Met a Long Lost Song

When I Met a Long Lost Song
(Tariku Abas Etenesh)

In that space,
Where a soul yearns for tears and mirth –it does so to be strong,
For the act is a search for a long lost song;
A song orchestrated in meanings-accepted and meanings-sought;
Composed by nature in the rhapsody of spins, pause, and rote,
Where the meadow, the valleys, and the oceans inherently, just ‘be’;
Letters in the lyrics of the will to know, to un-know, to be enslaved, to be free;

In that space,

Where every soul wishes to punctuate the long stretches of sameness,
With a sweet moment of tears and dreaded mirth,
A struggle to reclaim a long lost song does arise from the tables of “normalcy”,
Of the accepted-glamorous-shallowery
and the decried, belittled, truth’s call for mercy;

In that space,

Where the wish 'to be' is same as the wish to end the moment;
And salvage the ‘what had been’ before the air was air, the soil was soil,
Life was life, flesh was flesh and beginning was a start,
A fathomless moment of a fathomable gait with no respite;

There, in that space,

Where every beginning is pregnant with an end to entail,
Oscillating, unsure but excited like a just mutated cell,
From the mold of passions of a chromosomal- repetitive pulse;
Between causes called attainment and those called dreams;
Fatigued like a thirsty desert traveler weary of the past and prospects,

In that space,

When my senses  are subjected to a clamor- deafeningly present,
That unwittingly takes every random mutation of forms and structure,
for dawn of an affable new creation deserving the mother cell’s massacre.

In that space,

I want my moment to cry, to shed tears, to pain and be alone,
and rhythm with the long lost song of being just human.
